We were up very early – 3:30 am for the 6:00 flight from MBA to NBO. Richard had to do some juggling because Jetlink, who we were scheduled to fly on, canceled their morning flight because there were not enough passengers. So that pushed us to an early Kenya Airline flight that worked out fine. It was completely cloudy all the way so no sightseeing as the sun was coming up, except we did get two looks at Nairobi due to a go-around. They never told us why; we just descended to about 500 feet and then pulled up and went around the pattern again to land.
At the airport we were met by Wiliford and Janice (Mama Giddel), and their son Giddel , 1 year old, who picked us up in a Safari van to drive us to Eldoret. Moms are known by the name of their first born usually, and it’s a sign of respect. When I heard we would be in a Safari, I thought it was the GMC Safari mini-van – nope; it’s a Toyota van used for safari where the roof pops up so you can stand up. It is quite rugged and not too uncomfortable, all things considered.
We ate at Java House again and then we were on the road to Nakuru, the Wild Game Park where we were spending the night.
